I've noticed this happen quite a few times now.

Occasionally when i open my Network Connections window, there is a new LAN/High-Speed Internet Connection which seems to have created itself. It appears to be connected to a device called Microsoft TV/Video Connection.

This PC is connected via a xover cable to another PC, which acts as the ICS host, connecting to the Net via an Alcatel Speedtouch ADSL modem.

I have performed around 5 clean installs of XPPro (the most recent after the installation of a new MoBo) and this has happened everytime. There's no telling when the new connection will appear. Im worried it might be some kind of trojan but neither NPF2002 nor NAV2002 reports none after each (nightly) Full System Scan. Also, in the properties dialog of this connection, it says its connected at 30Mbps and has sent and recieved 0 packets. it appears to be idle.

Any ideas what could be causing this to happen? I am always extremely careful to avoid programs using spyware as much as possible, and im paranoid about internet security.

Here I am again answering yet another of my own posts. Ho hum.

Oh well, I found an article (Q303302) in MSKB relating to this and had to chuckle at another example of Microsoft's "Yes; its a problem, No; we cant be bothered fixing it" attitude.

It started happening after i installed my USB camera and apparently Windows creates the LAN connection 'by design'.

Yeah, right.

So its back to the tried and tested, solve-all 'switch off, switch on' procedure.
