I run a win98(fe) system and recently had a cable modem installed by a local ISP,it is on USB port. I have this problem when the system freezes whenever I download files or even when browsing the net, I have no option but to reboot the system as keyboard commands don't get through. I reinstalled win98 but the problem persists. Is this because of Win98 or cable modem?? What can I do to overcome these problems? also i use mcafee firewall and Norton anti-virus..any help is appreciated,
Thanks

Close or disable McAfee and Norton before you start downloading.

An upgrade to Windows 98SE would be nice because it incorporates a lot of security and bug fixes.

If you have another device (camera/scanner etc..) attached to the usb tree/hub it may be conflicting with the usb for the internet. usb shares one irq among all devices. usb/internet works just not for all pc's. If you can't get it resolved you may want to consider migrating over to a network card/dsl modem.
