cannot import spreadsheet to access (W98)

i'm running office97 and have installed sr-1 and sr-2b.

i'm trying to convert an excel spreadsheet to an access data base. in excell when i select data>convert to ms access, i select new database. i recieve the message "The wizard is unable to access information in the file c:/..../ <filename.xls>. Please check that the file exists and is in the correct format." i get this message on any excel file i try.

when in access, i try to import an excel spreadsheet, but *.xls is not even listed as a filetype.

any suggestions?

reinstall data source, there are some library files corrupted from your windows file, you have to delete them and reinstall office.

i think somewhere in microsoft.com knowledge will show you. I had this error before, simply reinstall wont help. You have to delete some dll files from windows directory
