Hi Guys,
does anyone know how i can change the Fonts menu link in the XP control panel to a simple shortcut to its folder as it was in 'good old 98'? I use a desktop menu in my task bar and whenever i run the mouse over the fonts link, the damned fonts list takes forever to load. I tried removeing unused fonts from the fonts folder but WinXP's 'auto repair' feature simply restores them on reboot.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

You can create a shortcut to the Fonts folder and put it on the Desktop or wherever you wish.

The Fonts folder does take a bit of time to load as it loads all the names before displaying them all at once, and that is with 832 on mine.

Certain fonts can't be deleted in WinXP, especially the native ones [or System fonts]. Uninstalling programs will get rid of some.

Thanks for your help Bert, but perhaps i didnt explain clearly enough. I actually want to either alter the control panel entry from a menu link to a shortcut link...or, get rid of the menu link in the CP alltogether. The damned thing keeps loading and its as if my system freezes it takes so long to load them.
Thnx for the quick reply. appreciated.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There isn't a separate .cpl file for the Fonts entry in Windows\System32 so it can't be renamed or deleted. Must be a System folder required by WinXP. I think about all that can be done is reduce the number of fonts installed.

Thanks Bert.
