View Full Version : Block modem dialup (All)
Hi all,
Is there way (preferably via the Registry) to stop modem dialup? You see, I would like to be able to disable the modem dialup while I am not on the computer so nobody else can dial up to the internet and build up large phone call costs.
Thanks

OK...What system. Not sure you want to mess with the registry. If this is a home system why not make yourself the admin and all other users general. Then as admin establish a policy that disallows access to control panel, Remove start menu options, remove network and dial-up otpion etc..or
Change one setting on the modem configuration, i.e. parity..or
Simply remove the modem cable or if you really want the registry answer
network section of registry is place to look under hkey_local_machine.....

why not simply disable or remove the device before you leave the machine.
this would prevent most users from gaining dial out access, or make yourself an admin and enable it only for yourself.

If having to allow access to the computer for other people is necessary, how about an External modem? Unplug it and take it with you, cheaper that some phone bills I've heard of.
We all, each of us, have a uniqueness, some of us enjoy it, some of us don't.
