I installed some software that had the side effect of diplaying the folder taskpane on the desktop. Despite uninstalling it and using System Restore I am still left with the task pane on my desktop. Does anybody know how can I get rid of it?

We'd need to know the name of the some software program.

The program was Vital-Desktop from http://www.vital-desktop.com

According to information I have read from two people this extra Taskbar is caused by using Norton Anti-Virus and then using Ontrack's Fix-It Utilities registry cleaning proggy.

I'm a newbie, take it easy on me

I don't have Norton and although I have Fix-it I have not used the registry clean tool. I would have though that the settings for a folder's view are stored in the registry somewhere.

Beautiful program, almost caused my machine to crash.

You probably have a left-over registry entry here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Controls Folder

under the Desk and Display keys.

Also look under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\Con textMenuHandlers
