Recently did a reformat and loaded Win98SE. I'm on dialup service. When my "Dial-Up Connection Box" appears it's asking for my password. I've put it in and checked "Save Password" but it will not save it. I talked w/a tech rep at my ISP and they had me check other settings. They couldn't help me either short of telling me to change all passwords. Never had this problem before and I have not clue as to how I can get the password to stay. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I am getting this message upon startup: ...unable to load the dynamic link library...msnp32.dll...etc. I went to a site to download this msnp32 but it didn't work. Could this be causing the other problem w/the password? Should I reinstall my Win98SE once again? Would appreciate any help.

Thanks much.

I think its best to go to Start>Settings>ControlPanel>Network. Write done any pertanent settings, the remove all componenets. Shutdown and restart and go back and add them in again.

If it comes to a point where it says it can't find a file, click the Browse button and select the c:\windows\system directory. The next file it can't find, click the Browse button and select the c:\windows directory.

That should do it.

If that fails, check these MS Knowledge Base articles:
Dial-Up Networking Password Is Not Saved: Q148925
Save Password Check Box Is Unavailable: Q137361
In some cases, the Password List files get corrupted. In this case, try this:
First, go to Control Panel>Users and delete the ones you created.

Try #3 first, it may do the trick alone, if not go through the following steps.

1. Go to Start>Search>Search for Files & Folders... type in *.pwl and delete all .pwl files in c:\windows

2. Go to Start>Run, type notepad system.ini. Maximize the system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]

3. Go to ControlPanel>Network
Choose Windows Logon as Primary Login

Reboot

You should now get the login box one last time. Just click OK for no password. Now right-click on InternetExplorer on the desktop, choose properties, click the Connections tab, highlight your dial-up connection and choose the Settings button. Input your dial-up password here.
