HI, I have Windows 2000 Pro as a client and Windows 2000 advanced server as domain controller, I want the client to join the domain that I have created, can anyone help me?
Facts:
Using windows 98 as client, I can easily join the domain but howcome windows 2000 Pro , when I tried to join, there is always error message: Network path cannot be found ( I can see the server in the network neighbourhood and able to map network drive, also I have made sure that I used domain admin account and pass for letting me to join the domain)
- Do I have to rename my workgoup in windows 2000 Pro the same as domain name?
Pls help , thanks

When you are trying to join the computer to the domain are you using the following procedure:
1. Right click on the My Computer>Properties>Computer Name>Change>Domain?
Another couple of points:
1. The domain name field does not have to be the same as the Wokgroup field.
2. Does the PC have it's IP address issued by a DHCP server or is there is a DHCP server available to do this?
3. If the address is static is the subnet mask and gateway correct for the domain?

I have configured my Windows AD server to be DHCP server, and thus subnet and gateway is correct, i am able to ping from both client or server successfully, I am also able to add the client from the server and can see that the client is under the domain, However I am very curious as why I cannot add to the domain from the client, always saying network path cannot be found... I have checked the domain security policy of the server and everything is alright, Do I have to assign a DNS if only 2 computers at home and only 1 domain and 1 subnet?

When you are adding to the domain from the Client is the resource kit correctly installed? Also have you got the computer type correct (are you a Client/Server or BDC)? I presume the W2K Advanced server is the PDC.
Why are you going to all of this trouble for a small home network? You said this was for a Server and two clients.
Hope this helps...

When you're trying to join the domain, are you signed in as a user with administrative access to the domain (not just local administrator)? Also, make sure that there isn't a computer account already in the domain with the same name as the one you're trying to add.

You need to verify that your DNS is functioning. An easy way is to open the hosts file found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\
It will have at least one entry at the bottom:
127.0.0.1 localhost
add another entry for your DC and DHCP server
169.168.1.32 MYDomainControler
Save the file, make sure it doesn't have an extension. Now try to add the computer to the domain. If it is successful then you have some DNS issues to resolve.
