Greetings all,

I have been recieving alot of junk mail to a email address that I can't trash. So I set up some rules. The problem is that the rules block the specific email address or domain. some of the spammers email addresses(probably fake anyway) are at well known domains that I dont want to block completely so I can't block the domains. And I know that the address changes with every two or three messages. For exanple
alex29@nuts.com then
alex30@nuts.com
The real Question is since the blocked senders list is in the registry can I use wildcards in the address like alex*@nuts.com

Any thoughts would be appriciated.

What version of OE is it? I have noticed the same thing with the addresses, changing just a couple characters so as to get the message by the filter, but a lot of times the message will display in the message list as being from the same sender. For example, the two alex**@nuts.com will both be displayed in the message list as having "getyourfreenuts.com" in the "From" column. In the rules you can add this string to the "If message is from:" list, it doesn't have to be an address. I know this works for OE 4 & 5.

Thanks for replying Josh,
I'm using OE6. I see what you mean about the from line. I have a set of rules that finally seem to have stopped the flow of spam. I also have a alias email account that I can kill if it starts being the source of spam. most of the spam seems to be comming from an email accout that I can't trash, which I haven't used in 3+ years. Maybe I will create a few alias accounts and send mail to myself to test the wildcard theory.

Josh,

Do you know if this will work in Hotmail? I am sick to death of ads for vitamins, university degrees and my perosnal favorite, ******. My address there includes 'Nana' as a distinct part of it. Last time I checked, Nana was a grandmother!

Thank you,

No idea about Hotmail. My wife uses it and I think I recall her telling me that they have some sort of spam filtering as well as her "Block sender" list. She has a folder called "Junk Mail" that gets loaded up with 100-200 spam messages each day.

Given Micro$oft's commercialism policies I personally am almost convinced they are serving up the spam themselves, regardless of what any of their policies say, or at the very least are complicit with the spammers. I gave up on Hotmail years ago because I just couldn't keep the spam out no matter how careful I was.

Josh,

Yes, Hotmail does have filters & a 'block sender' list that I use. I have really been quite fortunate with spam - except for the 3 items I mentioned before.

WOW! Your wife's junk mail folder gets that many 'messages'? Every day? I don't get anything remotely like that. And I'm complainig? Shame on me!
