I have ME, IE 5.5 and Verizon DSL. Every few minutes, I get "hungup" for at least 30-45 sec. when opening a new page or site. My curser just blinks and I cannot open that page or any other page. After a prolonged wait, it opens and all is well till it happens again at random. Any suggestions or help...please.

I know of two possible issues:
1) With some DSL providers there's an issue w/ respect to the software used to make the connection. (e.g EnterNet, WinPoet, other software PPoE solutions.) I ferget the reason, may have to do with the way the software updates the network settings. So, have u tried Verizon's support pages? (I assume they're crappy, but give 'em a try.)
2) There may be an issue w/ IE. Again, I ferget the details, basically, a timeout occurs waiting for some corrupt/buggy/miscongifured dll that's supposed to do something Micro$oft thought may be useful. (In other words, if those idiots would focus on creating a good browser, and not winning the OS wars w/ their internet browser, we'd be in better straights.)
So, try updating IE including the latest critical fixes and such...(My IE 5.5 about box reads "Update Versions:; SP2; q313829; q319182." I think I've only updated w/ the critical patches.)
Post back yer results...
