Upgrade to XP? (W98)

I am running Win98SE and it is quirky. It hangs up and crashes. Should my OS be in pristine condition, free of problems, before I upgrade to XP?

You may be lucky in that the upgrade resolves the problems you are seeing by adding new drivers etc. On the other hand it may cause major problems when you upgrade but you can uninstall XP through add/remove programs if you do have problems.

If you attempt the upgrade I would backup all your important information before beginning.
