What is the maximum number of fonts Windows 98 can safely handle?
Are there any other important restrictions as to using too many fonts?
Don't ask "Whether..." , ask "How...?"

Don't know as if there is a maximum but I have noticed a performance hit after about 550. And that is with 256MB RAM in Win98SE. This article discusses it:

Microsoft advises keeping a max of 300 fonts loaded at any given time.
I have run as many as six hundred, but I don't use that many.
I'd advise keeping the Windows fonts, any fonts loaded by your office suite, and then only adding fonts that you definately use.
I have a whole CD of fonts. Occassionally I'll load one for a document, but I don't want to try 1000 fonts.
Remember, Every font is registered in the Registry. Windows will have to process that every time it scans the registry.
