I don't have a solution but you can supress the popup at all until anybody else comes with more than this workaround.

I am not sure if I understand your problem correctly as I have surpressed the pop-up by going to C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp, right click on the ZA shortcut, select properties and place "C:\ZoneLabs\ZoneAlarm\zonealarm.exe -nopopup -nosplash" in the Target box without the quotation marks. Click Apply and OK

When I used to get the pop-up it was similar to a cartoon's dialog balloon. But I do not recall it ever mentioning more than one alert at a time.

With the pop-up surpressed and the ZA icon gets the little 'a' to let me know of an alert then I just click on the system tray icon to open the alert panel. To close this panel I simply click on the X in the upper right hand corner. Doing so only closes the ZA control panel and does not close out the program itself.

Also, if you open the ZA Control panel you will find on the 'Alerts' page a box that controls the pop-up for which mine is not checked so I do not see the alert window.

Hi report_2 I have my ZA set to let me know of an attack by letting the popup alert me, but I'm thinking of changing it after reading your setup. Only every so often the window pops up with an alert & it says 1st of 4 alerts some times it said 1st of 10 alerts, some of these hackers have a scanner type thing that can blip off a series of port scans in a row & thats what ZA is telling us. . . my problem is I cant close the window at all. It might be easier to configure to just see the little A instead, after all Ive got the visual zone utility which is a great helper for ZA Thank you report_2 ---Hally---

When I first got ZA I let the alerts pop-up so that I could get an idea of what was happening. I saw no particular pattern to the alerts. I accepted it as normal internet traffic.

Since then I have looked at the logs. I even imported them into Excel to manipulate the data to get a better idea of whom and how often certain ones were probing. I had done this when the Nimda virus was effecting so many PCs. Again there was no particular 'attacks' on 'my' PC.

Now I just open the control panel to get rid of the little 'a' every so often.

Just having ZA provides that warm and fuzzy feeling that my PC is secure. If it stops all of those then it is going to stop a rare and not so determined hacker.

If they want in then they will get in. They will likely be disappointed with what they find unless they like my pictures or MP3s.

Enjoy.

Maybe you already know. There is a program called ZoneLog Analyser (http://zonelog.co.uk/). This might be useful for your analysis purposes.

Thank you Gernot but I have completed my analysis and find that with ZA I am no longer concerned.

I believe that all new users of ZA go through the period of concern. I have been using it for quite some time now. I pretty much ignore it.

I do like the internet activity monitor feature because I am on cable.

Hally,

This is a good website, if you want to learn more about security issues and Firewalls. They have forums which are based on security subjects of all kinds, Firewalls, etc.

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.Wilders.org>www.Wilders.org</a>

That would probably a good place to post with questions on your Firewall.

Later,
Carol

Hally,
have you viewed (clicked to see the next alerts) all 4 alerts up to the current one at the time. Perhaps that is why you did not see a button to close it --because you were viewing an older alert. Try fliping to the last/current one and see if a button gets enabled.

You did not state which version of ZA you have. But there was a similar problam to what you describe in 2.6.26x version.
The current version 3 does not have that problem as far as I know; it automatically hides the alert after showing it for a few seconds so you don't have to click it. In addition to that, it lets you select what security level should show alert, so only Medium or only high rated attempts are shown while any thing less just gets logged quitely in the background.
You can turn the whole thing off as well.
