View Full Version : Word 2000 doesn't save (WME)
Would anybody be able to tell me why word 2000 no longer saves changes to a document.
I had a very important document, about 12 pages and i was up all last night making changes, at the end it was 64 pages. I clicked save, to overwrite the exsisting file but when i opend it this morning it was the 12 page document.
Is there any way i can recover the 64 page document?

Possibly, but you should expect not to get it back and just hope that you do.
Word is supposed to save info for emergency recovery to a file. It's this file that you will try to recover. Word names it the same as the parent file, the exception being that it replaces the first several characters of the file name with the ~ symbol. Search your computer for a string that matches the last few characters of your file name and see if you can find anything like this. It will probably be in the same directory as the original document or in C:\Windows\Temp.
If you do happen to find such a file, open Word. Go to File > Open and in the 'File Type' feild there is an option called Recover text from any file. Choose this and open the temp file you found. Even if it works, you can expect to have to clean up your formatting, but hey, small price to pay, right?
As to why it happens...no clue. If you could figure out why MS products do half the crazy stuff they do you would be loved and revered by all. I don't trust that save button and usually hit it 4 or 5 times before I close anything.
