I use Office 97 Professional and received Word 2000 with the last laptop I got last year - all was working fine. The CNET Catchup service advised that there was an upgrade to the Installer program available so I downloaded it and installed it. Upon restarting, it tried to run the Installer as normal but then came up with a panel saying it could not find it and to insert the Word 2000 CD. When the CD is inserted, it says there is not a valid version of the file available. I tried downloading and installing again but no help with either version. I tried uninstalling the function but it again asks for the CD to be inserted and will not uninstall because it says there is not a valid version present. Everytime I boot the computer, it goes through looking for Installer and asking for the CD and I have to cancel before I can continue. I can't install and I can't uninstall - how do I get around this?

arnieb,

Rename these files and run the install again:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSI.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msiexec.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msihnd.dll

You have the latest download link...version 2.0 corrct:

If reghakr's suggestion doesn't work, try using the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Tool</font color=blue> (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q238413><font) to clean Word out of the registry and then do the reinstall.
