Is there any way to write names vertically in Excel2000 or excel Xp (as following)?
M
N
I
N
S
H
D
W
I don't want to change the width of cells.
In Ms-Words there's a sub menu to do it. No chance in excell?
Thanx in advance/

One way would be to Insert, Picture, WordArt. Some of the choices include vertical. Make the size of the text what you want and drag it into a cell large enough for it all to fit, then resizing the cell should resize the text.
Click and drag the cells you want then right click and choose format cells, click the alignment tab and where it says orientation highlight the box with the text showing vertical.
Choose ok
Now when you enter the text into a cell and press enter the text will be vertical.

thanx for the reply.
What you explained rotates the text. I am looking for a way to write vertical text not rotates them. I need to write a text as following:
T
E
S
T
T
E
X
T
Anyhow I appreciate your care.

Another method:
"On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Alignment tab.
In the Vertical box, click the option you want.
Rotate text in a cell
On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Alignment tab.
In the Orientation box, click a degree point, or drag the indicator to the angle you want.
To display text vertically from top to bottom, click the vertical Text box under Orientation"
Problem with this is that it truly rotates the letters at an angle, with the letters 'laying on their side'.
What i suggested is what your trying to do. There is two options, 1 is rotate the text and the other is to have the text appear vertical.
In the orientation section highlight the box which has
t
e
x
t
I've done it myself as i'm writing this and it works

I had trouble with it too. Turned out I didn't read DanK's post closely enough. He's right.
When you are looking at the alignment tab you see a 'degree wheel' on the right side, with a box and the word
T
e
x
t
appearing exactly as you are trying to do. Leave the degree wheel at 0 but click the box with the word 'text' one time to highlight it and then click OK on the dialog box while it is still highlighted. This will do what you are wanting.

DanK:
What you said was right. I realized what you were getting at after I couldn't get it to work and went back and read carefully. It just so happened it was worded in a way that someone blowing through it in a hurry instead of reading it might miss the point. Our mistake, not yours.
Thanks for the tip by the way. I'm not as proficient in Office as I would like to be - or should be, truth be told. Little tidbits like this are good to know.
