Can anyone tell me that what software is good for
remote control.
I am looking for a software to do remote control, but not dial up. Something like Carbon copy, but I want one that I can remote control other party's machine with DSL/Cable connect. Your help is greatly appreciated.

You should try Danware's NetOp Remote Control (<a target="_blank" href=http://www.danware.dk>http://www.danware.dk</a>). It's much smaller than PCAnywhere, but works very stable. From specifications: ".. supports all commonly used communication protocols, including TCP, UDP, IPX, NetBIOS, Windows modem, CAPI, Dial-up networking, Serial or IrDA."
AFAIC they don't allow to download software from thir site, but instead of it they send you a trial cd for free.

Alexander.

How about VNC, anyone is using that? I just tried it, but comparing to pcanywhere, what is the speed from internet remote control???

I use VNC on a high school LAN. There is about 1/2 second of latency there, but it works quite well and is easy to setup. Anyone know how secure it is out on the big bad 'net?

thanks
now I know what the software is but is it ALSO possible to use it as a free desktop sharing solution (1pc with 2 or 3 users).
Some one suggested that to me on another forum but so far I cannot see how would it support multiple monitors (displaying different apps) from the same PC. Any one tried it?

I have had several users accessing the same server via VNC and everyone sees the exact same thing, e.g. the view the monitor on the server is displaying.
What you are wanting is more of a mainframe/terminal setup, true? Several people doing their own thing, oblivious to the others, but all of the users using the same computer.

homeflash,
Give this one a look over:
TightVNC is an enhanced version of VNC, which is optimized to work over slow network connections such as low-speed modem links. It allows you to access your computer desktop remotely via a client program or with a web browser, using the built in HTTP server While original VNC can be very slow when your connection is not fast enough, TightVNC allows you to work remotely almost in real time in most environments. Besides bandwidth optimizations, TightVNC also includes many other improvements, optimizations and bugfixes over the original VNC. TightVNC is compatible with the standard VNC.

Thanks Reghakr.

thanks jd, reghakr,
VNC does not seem to be designed as a PC sharing (desktop sharing) solution. It is more of a remote access prog.
I've tried some apps out there, but each has its own problems.
Is there something tailor made for this job yet does not require networking to be installed?
by the way thanks for the dl links, I am already trying them both . I like tight vnc!.

I wasn't clear in my wording on that last post. I was actually asking a question. I'll try again.
With VNC, more than one person can control/view the same desktop. But are you wanting more of the server/terminal setup where more than one user can use the same cpu and not interfere with one another, or even be aware of one another?

thanks
yes , but not a full fledged terminal, which suggests that some networking will be involved, just additional monitors & keyboards plugged into the same CPU/VGA/IO with multiple cards .
Even if it is like 3 monitors + 1 TV (if a VGA card has indep.TV out)
So 3 kids can do homework on the PC at the same time, while the 4th kid plays some game on the tv.
Now I know this does not support net sharing, after all it is the same PC, but at least it is a way to allow the kids to do all their home work at the same time, and have some fun while they are at it.
The point is. Each of them should have a different virtual desktop showing.
