Maximize it or drag the corner/side to where you want it, hold down the Ctrl key, and click on the X to close it [use no other Close or Exit function]. Try it, may have to do it a couple of time to 'train' Windows.

No offense Bert,

I've found that maximizing is not a good idea.

here's how I usually handle it:

When the windows opens, drag the borders, top, right, bottom, and left to the size you want (almost filling the entire screen). DO NOT use the maximize button. DO NOT use the ribbed section in the lower right corner.

Now choose File>Close, DO NOT use the X in the top right corner. It should open to the size that you just closed it from.

No offense, as I tell my clients, there is at least 3 ways to do most anything in Windows, sometimes 4. The routine I used works in my WinXP Pro. Thought it should work in Win98.

That;s right, there are many more. here is what I've gathered:

Many solutions to choose from. I don't recommend running 3rd party apps, but if that's the only way:
=================================
try double-clicking on the Titlebar.
=================================

If you're running in 1024x768 screen area, type this into the browser window:
javascript:resizeTo(1024,768);

If you're running 800x600, type:
javascript:resizeTo(800,600);
================================

Reset New Browser Window Size
Sometimes Internet Explorer 5 "decides" to remember the wrong size for a new window. Whatever you do, you can't seem to get it to remember a normal size.

Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplo rer\Main
Delete the value Window_Placement
Exit the Registry Editor

=================================
As a last resort
AutoSizer (http://www.firase.com/>http://www.firase.com/</a>
AutoSizer)

Don't forget this one...
Right click the desktop IE icon, select Properties and in the Run box select Maximized.

What I am really looking for is tweak/fix/program to allow side/edge docking+autohide of any non-maximized window just like you would dock a toolbar
So whenever I want to take a peek into that window I just reposition the mouse or press some hot key.

clear enough?

another thing reghakr,
"javascript:resizeTo" only sets the RESTORE size, what if I want to set the actual Maximized state size (beyond the screen size or half the screen size etc..).
For example F11 in IE always takes the entire screen ...can it be done so pressing F11 only takes a given area yet leaves part of the desktop visible?

How about right-click the taskbar, create a New toolbar. When done, click and drag the vertical line/dots to the desktop. This 'undocks' it and you can drag it to any edge of the screen and it will look just like the QuickLaunch bar. Then you can add icons/shortcuts as you wish, you can even autohide it.

I already have that, but this is not what I was asking about. I mean to say I need an "open window" that is dockable like a toolbar;
Just like a view pane or Expolrer bar (in autohide/F11 mode), but on the desktop rather than just being inside IE).

I am not sure if I am making any sense, may be I have a problem putting it into words? ... sorry about that .

Basically, how to enable on the desktop some kind of IExplorer style bars (the one that shows on the left side with Fav, History, BHOs etc..), but this "desktop" bar should be able to display any application window I choose , and on any side of the screen not just the left side.

I do not know of any add-on that does that?

Take a look at this freebie; perhaps it is close to what you seek.
