Hey Everyone,

I recently upgraded my HP 8560C from Windows 98 to Windows 2000. This messed up some of my devices. Initially, my sound card gave me the most trouble (the Multimedia Sound Device had to be replaced with a Riptide modem/sound card drive). This seemed to work, my MP3's and window sound effect work. However, when I reinstalled some of my games (my windows upgrade was a reformat, my system was too messed up to save) won't work properly. I usually get errors about their .exe's not working properly. Could this be because of the driver or is this another issue? Does it matter where the driver stuff was downloaded to on my hard drive? Right now the Riptide driver is in a folder directly inside the C: folder.

Thanks Alot!

wolonj,

A re-format is the best way to go.

If we knew what those errors said, that might help us...

You do realize games and Windows 2000 don't often cooperate together, right?

Have you viewed the readme.txt files included with most games to see if there are compatability issues?

MS release a whole set of compatability updates for Win2k so that older Win9x games and apps would work. Unfortunately these tend to be software released toward the end of the 9x lifecycle.

Worth a try though, I think the compatbility layer installed with Win2K SP2 is no good for gaming though.

I think you should upgrade to XP, it should work better. A clean install may work though.
