How do I edit the user registration name in the Office 97 Applications? (ie. the name displayed when I click Help and About in Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint.)

I don't think you can. The below info. is from the registry guide on this site.

With previous versions of Microsoft Office it was necessary to re-install Office to change the registered company as shown on the splash screen and in the About dialog box. With Office 2000 and XP it can be changed in the registry.

Hi,

Ive only owned the 2000 version but maybe try this anyhow for 97 office.

(1)Close any MS Office Apps currently running
(2)Go to Start-Run
(3)Type Regedit
(4)Go to the location:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{00010409-xxxxxxxx}

Just look on the right pane and if you see "Microsoft Office Professional", then your in the right place.

(5)Look for the value: "Product ID"
What you have to do now is rename this to: OldProductID
(6)Press F5
(7)Exit out of the Registry

(8)Open up say....Powerpoint.
At this point you will be required to re-enter your Registration and Product ID Key.

There's nothing at all related to MS Office under this key. At least, not in mine. I've tried looking for reference to a registered owner but have never found anything.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

Hi Mocha,

Maybe this is Office 2000 related???

At the time of writing, I was using Win2000 and just to double check of your enquiry I resorted to loading up to Windows 98.

Yep the path was correct, but the folder for Office is one your have to check through yourself. If its still in the Add\remove box, [Control Panel] then its somewhere here.

Have you tried pressing Ctrl+F and typing "Office" or "ProductId" [without the quotes]

If neither of this is any success, Im sorry to be of no assistance.

On a Final note: when you were searching for a registered owner; You won't!!!

The point of this method is so that you don't have to reinstall Office again. Just search for ProductID and change it to OldProductID then open up any office program and re-enter the correct ownership details.

Justinr,

Yes, I know you won't find it searching for registered owner. I had tried to find a way previously to change the registered owner in Office 97. That's why I posted that reply to acymlf. It is not possible in previous versions of Office. Period.

This is where I got that info. for my reply:

http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/460/ So, what does that tell you??

Thank you for trying to help, but I believe the answer is final.
