This is really fricking annoying. This is a problem on both Win2k with the .NET sdk installed with IE6 and on XP (i.e. .NET&IE6).

I frequently use the links toolbar to access frequently visited sites (not the favorites menu!), but there appears to be a bug in IE6. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it:

If you have more than one browser window open, and you click on a link from the links toolbar in the second open window, it changes the location of the first window, not the second!

It's really freaking annoying because if I want two windows open doing different things, then I need to actually type in the url in the second window.

This doesnt happen all the time, but most (95%) of the time, but because it doesn't happen all the time I'm not sure if its a fixable .reg bug or what -- but I can't figure it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I use Win98 SE and IE6. I have a suggestion. If you make a new Folder in in the Links Folder and then put all those frequently accessed Links inside it, this new Folder will become a dropdown menu in the links toolbar when you access it.

Also, and this only applies to IE6, if you first go to Internet Options>advanced>Browsing & uncheck the box labeled "Reuse Windows for launching Shortcuts"
When you launch a shorcut from a subfolder within the links toolbar (not from within Favorites>Links>subfolder) but the actual Links toolbar, that shortcut will open in a New Window. So you won't have to worry about losing anything.

You might also see what happens if you uncheck reuse Windows to Launch Shortcuts. Does this alone solve the problem?

Yes unfortunately I've tried that, but the problem is that:

a) I already use folders within the links to create the dropdowns...it doesnt matter whether they are top- or n-level links

b) if you uncheck the reuse windows for launching shortcuts it does a lot of other wacky unpredictable crap...opens too many windows...basically, I'm used to automatically hitting ctrl-N or clicking my quicklaunch to open a new window....
