here's my setup:
i've got a linux box at work that does nothing but hold mp3s for our IT department. at work, i've got drives mapped to this linux box and i can create playlists and stuff with media player(for XP) and they play fine with no problem.
at home(a 5 minute drive from work), i've got a VPN tunnel through my cable internet connection so i can access the domain from home. normally, my cable connection speed is normally about 1900 kbps, so i know i'm connecting pretty decently. if i use media player 6.4, it plays just fine(no skips, no pauses, no waiting), but if i use WMP8, it pauses after every 5-7 seconds of playing. i'd be cool with using 6.4 if it offered the library and playlist features that WMP8 uses, but i'd rather just use WMP8. is there anything i can change on WMP8 to increase the performance? my computer is a 1gig p3, so i don't think it's a hardware problem. i'm hoping that there's a setting in WMP or some registry adjustment that will help with my performance. any suggestions? i haven't tried winamp or any other players yet and have nothing against them; i'd just rather use WMP if i could.
