RecCleaner's Shell Extensions tab: "Shell Extensions of different kinds of file types. You can delete all of the file types you don't need". There are 497 entries in mine. The ones I don't need.. I wouldn't know.. Problem is, I do not know what the difference is between Shell Extensions and the "File Types" tab. Removing a file type will eliminate an association, but what's the effect of removing a shell extension? And how many of those can I remove without Win98 freezing? It seems that every program installed has about 15 entries (associations?) in this Shell Extensions list, will removing these disable the program?

-thx

It's usually recommended to leave those Shell extensions alone, and just remove the NA File types.

I agree. Just remove the N/A file types.

By the way, if you do a lot of installing, uninstalling, etc., run the "Tools - Registry Cleanup - Do Them All" function on a regular basis.
