for almost two weeks now I'm getting the virus:
"w32.klez.gen" in my e-mail.From different senders.
One in particular: "Rosario_Serion",sent 4-5 messages.Subject:"So cool a flash,enjoy it".
I,finally got mad and replied. The lady denies sending me any messages.
The story's a lot longer, but let's start hier. Can you give me any advise on what to do to get rid of this annoying problem?
Dieter

Install IESPY and setup OE to open mail using the restricted zone settings.. you will never know you have a receive a virus.....
Then just block and delete the junk
and follow the rules don't open the junk in the first place

Pretty arrogant, aren't we?
I asked for some advise (i.e. backtracking the SOB who's sending the virus) and the only thing you can think of, is an insult! Well, coming from you ,that may be a compliment.

Sorry! If you took it the wrong... but I have tried the old track it back and these sites pop up and send the junk then they are gone...
Even if you email the main head man at the server they will say your are the crazy one and it never came from them....
I know I'm not the only one to deal with this stuff... If the FBI can't shut them down do you really think our two cents will matter...
Beside most of them have hacked headers... So who will you point the finger too...
here is whole page on spam
Just to add I have read don't even unsubscribe cause you just gave them a ping that the address was good one and you get put on another list....
Thanks

dhaiber,
I hope this tool elimnates them all:
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.webattack.com/get/klezremoval.shtml>Klez Removal Tool</a>
A free removal tool from Symanted (norton Anti-Virus). The W32.Klez Removal Tool does the following: It terminates all processes that are associated with W32.Klez.E@mm, W32.Klez.H@mm, W32.ElKern.3587, and W32.ElKern.4926. It deletes the W32.Klez.E@mm and W32.Klez.H@mm service(s). It removes the registry entries that were created by W32.Klez.E@mm and W32.Klez.H@mm. It detects all types of W32.Klez.E@mm, W32.Klez.H@mm, W32.ElKern.3587, and W32.ElKern.4926 infections, and repairs files that can be repaired

The info at Symantec says that the virus sticks a name in the "From" field at random from the email addresses it finds on the host computer. So the email may not have come from the person in the "From" field, but from someone else who has that person's address on their computer somewhere.

It don't matter where it came from. I may b wrong but i think the thing is an annoying worm. It sends itslef to everyone in your address book using different "From" entries. That way it's just gonna keep on coming back at you. How very annoying. Just buy som AV software or you will kick yourself. E.G Three formatted hard drives and a very close call with CIH cheynoble virus (OOOH I'll flashg your bios and wipe it) Taught me this (PLease don't have a go at me just trying to be nice not arrogant. Hard to convey these things in letters!!!)

i don't think he was being arrogant. he was trying to be very helpful with the scanty information you provided.
and FYI this is an open forum and some attempt at decorum is in order.
'go climb a rock is NOT'.
you are the victim of something called 'address spoofing' which is a trick that virus Klez uses.

You are not alone. I have gotten at least 30-40 emails with the virus (Klez). After getting a little smarter, I checked the properties of one that came in. And found the entire virus code attachment. The Klez code is approx. 130-135 kb long. I went into my email program (outlook 6.0) the tools folder, then message rules, then mail, then clicked new rule, then specified not to download any email containing more than 90kb. That, I think, would stop the Klez from being delivered to you. Of course, get the latest updated Anti-Virus software and keep it current. I have not gotten another email with a virus since I set the mail rules. Good Luck!
