Can't delete file in Win XP Pro.
I have a file that I can't delete that is 17.6 MB in size
Somehow Win XP doesn't see or can't find the path to this file.
I've tried a lot of diffrent things but nothing works:
Examples
result from <run> Command
To delete all the files in a folder named Test on drive C:\, type any of the following:
del c:\F:\Documents and Settings\Ivars Ezerins\Desktop\to sort\*.*
Response:
"The system cannot find the file specified."
Other Attempts:
1. <alt> - <del> the file
2. turned off System Restore option
3. turned off recycle
4. ran Chkdsk
5. Ran Norton info wipe program

iezerins,
The syntax is wrong. It's either:
del c:\Documents and Settings\Ivars Ezerins\Desktop\to sort\*.*
Or
del F:\Documents and Settings\Ivars Ezerins\Desktop\to sort\*.*
depending on which drive it's on.
If it's named hiberfil.sys, turn off the hibernation feature and it will be gone.

If you are using paths with spaces then the full path has to be enclosed in quotes "path"

I keep on trying but nothing!
1. enabled hibernation ... then later disabled
> nothing .... same result:
Error Message:
Cannot delete file:
2. Changed syntax > Nothing but the same result:
"The system cannot find the file specified.

Can you log in as the administrator and delete it?
Cheers

I'm trying to delete a folder & it's directory. There are a large number of diffrent files in diffrent folders.
I've even try to delete the folder & the files seperatly but with no luck.
It's like their invisible but they take up space.

I'm sorry but without knowing the file names etc. we can't determine if they are system files or if there is some sort of lock on the files from an application. I'm not aware of any files other than system files or files in use that cannot be deleted from the command line or explorer.
Cheers
Andy

Why so secretive?
Is it under the documents and settings directory?
