I was wondering what the "-v" switch does, as in Regedit -v. Canon says to use that when searching for printer entries. I used it but didn't see any difference.

Just to clarify my question a little.
Canon tech support says to use: regedit-v
On this page: <a target="_blank" href=http://209.85.7.18/techsupport.php?p=bjc610&q=faq&pg=http://209.85.7.18/techsupport/faq/610rem.html>http://209.85.7.18/techsupport.php?p=bjc610&q=faq&pg=http://209.85.7.18/techsupport/faq/610rem.html</a> Under Win95-Line12.
Just curious as to what this does, as I can find no reference to it in any of my searches.

Sorry, guess I didn't search hard enough.
It was used in Win3.1 to give you a graphical display of reg.dat.
Never had 3.1 Didn't know what a computer was till 95 came around.

i remember "View" switch , does that ring a bell.
there were quite a few DOS CD & SCSI drivers that used the -v switch ... it shows their info while loading..
some used the D instead of V (D=display)

glad i don't have to deal with them any more.

imagine prior to win3.1 they had win 3.0 and a couple of version before that.

well back then windows was only $50 a piece at retail prices ...

And after 3.1 they released 3.11 , 3.51, and NT4

finally w95 came along ... and we know how bad w95 was ... yech! :-)

I am gonna probably say the same about w98 when I go to XP

Yes, I know what you mean. Sounds like were talking ancient history. But, only ten years ago.

Thanks

Hey guys, don't knock 3.1! It was a great o.s., don't forget that's where windows started.

"Error:
Win 3.1 Program Manager has caused a General Protection Fault, please pay us a $100 every two years to allow Windows to wipe its butt."

this is what it is all about...

The concept of Windows was not Microsofts'

They stole it as usual (from Xerox & Apple Macs).
Plus at the time when the first versions of MS Windows came out there were 3 software companies called "Windows" around the world, and at least one of these sued Microsoft for trademark issues.

MS got away with that. But now MS has sued Lindows thinking they stole "their" Windows OS ... MS lost so far.

Sure, and once upon a time a big thigh bone was good for bringing down our dinner. But I'll take gunpowder, thank you very much, and won't be the least bit nostalgic for the bone. /images/forums/icons/tongue.gif

And how many millions did Gates support Apple with just 2 or 3 years ago, 45?

45 what .. I am afraid I am not following you here?

but the concept of windows was a Xerox thing in the early/mid 80's, that is where Steve Jobs got his "Macintosh OS" idea from

Or is it just an accident for a Mac to be most suitable for DTP applications at the time... An almost over-night development for Apple IIs previously using a Bill Gates created OS called CPM ?
Xerox had a lot to do with it. But they were so stupid not to realize the potential of what technology they were putting on the shelve. They thought Copy Machines were gonna make them ... just a big mistake !

"And how many millions did Gates support Apple with just 2 or 3 years ago, 45?"

Actually, I think it was $145 Million that I read Gates put into Apple 2 or 3 years ago.

Uh. Ah. I guess then that I will never have a need to use: Regedit -v.
Anyway, I am kind of neutral on liking or disliking Bill Gates. He was just a very ambitious man who put everything into something he believed in. He was young. Take chances. The timing was right. It paid off.
If someone else built the perfect operating system, what would we have to talk about. Sometimes I hope something will go wrong with my system, so I can fix it. I've switched my interest from cars to computers. Much more challenging and cleaner.
Anyhow, thanks everyone
