"document is already being used by xxxxxx"

Hi!

I have a problem with Excel 2000 (running win2000) every time i open one of my saved document i get the message "document is being used by fredrik(my)".
Does anybody have a clue whats wrong??

I answered a question like this a while ago, but the person never came back and said if it worked or not. Log in as Administrator. Look in the C:\winnt\temp folder, and the folder containing the file you are trying to open, for hidden files that have names nearly identical to the file in question, but with a "~" replacing the first couple of characters. If you find any like this, delete them. Also, look for and 0kb *.tmp files in the same directories and delete them.

Sometimes Office apps don't release the documents they are working on. MS products are not known for cleaning up after themselves. Sometimes cleaning up orphaned files like this clears the 'in use' status.
