View Full Version : Unable to send email through Outlook 2000 (W2K)

I've been working with this laptop (Gateway Solo 9500, 750MHz, 125MB Ram, Win2K) belonging to a client that for the past week hasn't been able to send email through Outlook. It gets an error message - 'TCP/IP error occured when trying to send information to the server. Error 0x800ccc13' My client has talked to his isp (a local one that dials up using the dial-up networking so no fancy software at that end) and they are baffled as to what could be wrong with the computer. They did go through and resetup his Outlook settings to send and receive his email.

So, I did a bit of research on the Microsoft Website and found this technet article - Q312349. It's actually for Outlook 2002 instead of the 2000 I'm working with, but I figured it couldn't hurt. So, I updated the laptop to have both Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 6.0.

Well, it didn't help so I did the second part of the article which is uninstall and reinstall Outlook Express. Since it wasn't in the Add/Remove Programs, I followed the manual uninstall per article Q263837. It went fine, exactly as it was suppose to, until the point where I went to reinstall it. I went to download Internet Explorer 6.0 again and it didn't do a thing. Ran through the installation and download in less than 2 minutes (we're using a dial-up and the first time we did this it took 45 minutes at least) When I went to see if Outlook Express was back, low and behold - it wasn't installed.

Now, I can't find anything at this point on either the microsoft website or this website to help me out. I'm not worried about losing Outlook Express since being paranoid, I made sure I didn't do anything that wasn't reversable when I uninstalled it. But that doesn't solve the original problem of sending the email. My next thought would be to uninstall and reinstall Outlook but I'm a little doubtful that will help any. So, I'm looking for alternatives or clues because if that doesn't do anything I will probably have to reinstall Win2k and I really don't want to do that. So, anything thoughts or advice?

Thank you in advance,
Jheen

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing TCP/IP?

No, I haven't so I'll go ahead and try that. Question first, I've done this before in Win9x before but never in Win2k. I assume that it's similar - just removed it from Network and reinstall the protocol with add protocol. Or is there anything fancy I need to worry about?

Thank you again,
Jheen

Just uninstall it from the Local Area Connection properties box and then re-install. You may want to make note of the settings that you currently have in the TCP/IP properties, advanced box before uninstalling.

Yes! That worked! That was all it was. *dances for joy* Thank you! Thank you so much, Andy, from both of us! I feel stupid now for not thinking of it in the first place (*lol* I thought of uninstalling and reinstalling everything else...) but I'm so glad I didn't have to do anything that lost information.
