I have downloaded and used this neat little scanning tool, thank you.
Is the trojan/spyware lists updatable like Spyware Doctor is?
If so, how?

Hmmm... I copied and pasted the required dat file from SD in Program Files onto my USB thumbdrive .... however, AOSS won't detect it when I plug it into the computer at the AOSS prompt...it just says..."Detecting USB Drive".. and sits there.
Do I just need the dat file from SD or something else as well on my thumb drive?
Apart from this, the program works fine.

Hey sp00ki,
You will have an option to use the refdb.dat from the USB disk. Currently the refdb.dat file is not available. Alternatively, you can download the refdb.dat from the Spyware Doctor directory in windows and copy it to a USB drive.
You will need to place the refdb.dat file on the first partition of a USB drive, when prompted, insert the USB drive and AOSS will detect the new refdb.dat and copy it onto the running system.
I hope this helps.

Well, hang on there c_edge ... I believe that is exactly what I did.. copied and pasted the refdb.dat file onto my USB thumb drive from the Spyware Doctor program in C: Program Files, inserted it into the USB port when prompted by AOSS, then .... waited... and waited ... and waited.
Nothing happened..:(
Tried a couple of different USB ports, same results...nothing.
Obviously, i'm making a mistake somewhere, but where?
Does the AOSS program let you know it has detected the updated refdb.dat file and is copying it to the program? ... because mine just sits there doing nothing.
Anyways, thanks for your help.

Had the same problem with AOSS not reading my USB thumb drive. Am I missing something here? AOSS boots up no problem, selected my partition, then goes directly to scanning, nothing about updating refdb.dat. Solution anyone??

Hi All,
With regards to the problems you are experiencing with AOSS, detailed instructions have been put on the PC Tools website.
Please check out this link for more information: http://www.pctools.com/aoss/download/.

Nope...nope... I have tried every USB port on my computer, as well as all my external USB devices, plugging my thumbdrive into them all in turn, and the AOSS program will not detect the USB thumbdrive with the updated refdb.dat file on it.
The AOSS program itself works fine, it scans the computer for malware, reports, does everything correctly....but that's not much use if I can't update the program software to the latest definitions.
My computer is running Windows XP Pro and I can plug the thumb drive into any USB port on the computer or any of my USB external ports that I use and Windows detects it, and runs anything I want to from there, no problem.
So, it seems that AOSS has a glitch.
I would like to know if *anyone* has actually got the USB update option to work as it should from a USB thumbdrive???
My USB thumbdrive has nothing else on it except for the refdb.dat file, apart from that file it is empty, so I can't understand why it isn't detecting the drive.
Thanks,
S.

I had the same problem with my USB drive. The problem was because my USB drive did not have a partition table on it. Therefore, the refdb.dat file could not be placed on the first partition (because there was no partitions). I tried another USB drive and it worked. But as I said earlier that the CD does not actually need the database updated. It has one on the CD already. To use the built in one, click on the Skip button.
