Getting to the menu is very tricky. Restart your computer and keep pressing F8 once every second or so and you’ll get there.
You can also start win98 and click start – shutdown and select Restart in MS-DOS mode. Or use a win98/95 boot disk / CD to get to the prompt

As soon as you power up your computer, start pressing the F8 key about once a second. Don't stop doing it until the black DOS screen appears. Once it does, select "safe mode", then press the Enter key.

When Windows loads in "safe mode", the words will be in all 4 corners, the resolution will be lower, and the color will look washed out. That's all normal.

If I remember right, I believe pressing the Ctrl. key takes you directly into Safe Mode in Win98.

For 95 press F5 as soon as you see "Starting Windows 95".

2bbe,

Check the contents of the c:\msdos.sys file and verify this option exists:

[Options]
BootKeys=1

Iīll check msdos.sys later.
