Hi All

I have completely re-installed Windows 2000 Pro with Office 2000, when I open any application such as Word or Outlook, it starts and after about 5 seconds the application dissapears. I have tried with patches it doesn't work. Has anyone experienced this problem or know the solution ?, if so would appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

It appears to be a memory problem. You may have bad memory chips. It happens to me but not to ms application, nor win2000. Anyway, take a look at your memory chips, replace or reinsert it, make sure they are tight in and hopefully that will help.

Does this describe the behavior:

OFF2000: Program Quits Immediately After Starting

--------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Excel 2000
Microsoft Access 2000
Microsoft FrontPage 2000
Microsoft Outlook 2000
Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
Microsoft Word 2000
Microsoft Publisher 2000
------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

SYMPTOMS
When you start one of the Microsoft Office programs, the program unexpectedly quits immediately after it starts.

CAUSE
This problem occurs when you do all of the following:

You have the Beta 2 version (build 2221B) of Office installed.

-and-

You install the released version of Office without first removing the Beta 2 version.

-and-

You click Continue to the following error message during the installation:

Setup has detected a pre-release version of an Office 2000 family application installed on this computer. You must exit setup and uninstall the pre-release software before you install this released version. If you choose Continue, Office 2000 may not install properly.
This problem may also occur if the ProductID string value in the following registry key is present, but the value data is empty (appears as "" in the Data column):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{GUID}
{GUID} in the preceding registry key is actually a 32-character string that varies according to the version of Office 2000 that you installed. For example, the {GUID} for Office Premium is:
{00000409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}

RESOLUTION

To successfully install the released version of Office, remove the Beta 2 version of Office by following these steps:

Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel.

Click to select Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition in the list, and click Add/Remove.

In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Remove Office.

If you are prompted to restart Windows, do so.

If the ProductID value in the registry key is empty, follow these steps:
On the Start menu, click Run.

In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK.

Find the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall
If you find only one subkey that has a 32 character {GUID}, select that subkey and go to Step 4.

If you have more than one subkey that has a 32 character {GUID}, select each one until you find the one whose DisplayName value matches your version of Office.

For the selected {GUID} subkey, select the ProductID string value.

On the Edit menu, click Rename.

Type OldProductID and press Enter.

On the Registry menu, click Exit.

Start any one of the Office programs.

When the Microsoft Office 2000 User Information dialog box appears, type your CD Key. Follow the instructions on your screen.

STATUS
This problem was corrected in the released version of Microsoft Office 2000.

Thank you for all your helpful tips. To get round the problem it worked with XP Office but the notes described are the exact solution to my problem as the registration key starts with GC6J3, hence note Q255503 applies to this problem.

Thank you again
