A really dumb question that I can't find an answer to anywhere... Do you know of a way to change the default font size that is used for the headers and footers in IE 5.5 (running under Windows 2000 SP2) when printing...

It's not a dumb question at all.

I believe it's whatever the system font is. For that, right-click on the desktop, choose properties, click the Apppearance tab, click the items and look at the corresponding font. the default is MS Sans Seriff. I'd experiment here first.

Other areas you can change fonts are:

Right-click on the desktop, choose properties, click the Setting tab, then the Advanced button and select your size here.

In Internet Expolorer, click View>Text Size and change it here.

Also in Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options, click the Fonts button and make sure Latin-based is chosen, Times New Roman for web page font and Courier New for plain text font. These are the default settings.

Then click the Accessability tab and check or change the settings here as well.

Thanks for this... but I've already tried this - All I can seem to do is alter the font type (Ariel, Times New Roman, etc.) but not the size. In previous versions of IE the font size would change with the View > Text Size options - not anymore. I've tried on two different PCs and the problem exists on both - so not a PC set-up issue. The header/footers only seen to want to go 12pt in size. Do you (or anyone else know of the registry location where the font size is held?

Give this a try:

backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\International\Scripts

Right-click on the Scripts key, choose new>DWORD value, name it Default_IEFontSize. Right-click on Default_IEFontSize and type in one of the following numbers:

1=smallest
2=smaller
3=medium
4=larger
5=largest
