how can you remove ME from an HP PC? I want to put Win 98 on the PC but after formatting etc. it prompts to insert the ME disk. I have tried force feeding it the 98 disk, it does not work.
Can anyone help?

Did the HP come with WinME or Win98?

You shouldn't have formatted if you just want to restore win 98 after upgrading to ME. When you format you loose all the restore information Win ME has created while upgrading to ME.

However, if you did not delete the windows ME installation then simply start ME and go to Add/Remove icon then select the entry to remove Win ME. It will restore your system exactly to the state it was when you upgraded with some minor exceptions (shorter names for some icons in start menu ..not a big deal & can be fixed).

My current Win98 is a downgrade from ME
