Could you please help me out? I am beginning to get a warning when i turn on my computer that a backup is imminent or its possible my computer might crash. I have had this problem before a long while back and it seemed to go away after i got rid of a few things in my favorite places and also my email. Now i was trying to get to a site and the hourglass was just showing and as i tried to close it i kept getting more and more of the same blank areas, so i just turned the computer off . Now when i turned it back on the computer pre booted and i began getting this warning . I tried restarting and still i got the warning again . it does say set up but i dont know what will happen if i press to go to set up.I am at a total lost here as to how to do a backup. One time awhile back i went to the contol panel , add / remove programs, i selected the windows tab double clicked on system tools and then was told to check back up but i did not have it there. Is everyone required to do a back up? Please help thank you. If i have further problems i will keep in touch with you .

The backup program should be listed under,[system tools] in your add/remove program, just put a check mark in the box. What I think your computer is trying to tell you is it's about to go belly up for some reason and you had better do a backup before it does.. " I think"

What is the exact error you are seeing? What is the vendor of hard drive and PC you are using?
If it is "1720 - Intellisafe detects an imminent failure" then you most likely need to get a new hard drive. Some of these errors are reported incorrectly and the manufacturers have a firmware fix for it. See the attached for Seagate and Compaq.
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/customer_advisories/dh980423_cw01.html>http://www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/customer_advisories/dh980423_cw01.html</a>
Most hard drive vendors now implement Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART). The drive has sectors allocated for storing error information and increments a counter everytime an error is encountered. The drive firmware includes thresholds for all error types and if a threshold is exceeded then the intellisafe warning is displayed warning that an imminent failure may occur. I have seen drives run for months after the error is displayed but if this is the problem you are seeing and your drive manufacturer has not posted details of false errors then I would get a new drive ASAP.
Cheers
Andy
