I'm at my wits end. Trying to install WinME on a new hard drive. Already partitioned and formatted the hard drive without problems. When I type in setup after the E prompt, it runs scandisk. Then it says it's preparing setup. Then E prompt returns. All I can do is run scandisk over and over. I've checked every connection in the PC. The CD is clean and will boot up on my other PC.

The version of ScanDisk run during Windows Me Setup only checks for errors; it does not fix them. If problems exist, Setup cannot continue until they are fixed. You must fix any errors before running setup.

1. If you are setting up from a CD, insert the CD, and then
type the following:

d:\win9x\scandisk.exe /all

where "d" is the drive that contains the CD.

2. Follow the instructions on your screen, and fix any
problems that ScanDisk finds.

3. Run Setup again.

If you still have problems, try bypassing ScanDisk in Setup by running Setup with the /IS option. To
do this, type the following command:

setup /is

that’s setupSPACE/is

Ps: when I install windows, I normaly run setup with a few options to speed things up a bit. If you type setup /? At the prompt, you’ll get a list of all the options supported. On a clean installation, I’d skip the registry check as will as the disk check. I think the command was, setup /is /iv.
