My problem is that programs that are selected in the startup menu in msconfig are not all running after startup. I tried to unselect them and restart the computer then reselect them and restart again and they still won't all run.
Don't know how to fix the problem but while you wait for one of the others to reply have you tried putting shortcuts of the programs into the startup folder.
Just a temp solution

What are the programs that won't start? Also you might check you're add/remove programs to maki sure that they are installed, the startup will sometimes list things that are no longer installed.. good luck and have fun

That is correct. If some of those programs have been uninstalled, their entries may still be in the MSCONFIG startup list. To get rid of them, do the following:
Click Start - Run, type in REGEDIT, then click Ok.
Click the + in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion.
Click directly on each "Run" folder and view its entries in the right pane.
If you find an entry to a program that you know for a fact no longer exists in your computer, right-click the icon, then click Delete - Yes.
Once you reboot, the obsolete entries should no longer be listed in the MSCONFIG startup list.
