I've been having a similar problem on a Win98SE machine since I restored the registry from a backup. I've repeatedly reinstalled Client For Microsoft Networks. I've also tried setting it to automatic logon using both TweakUI and the manual registry setting. I also nuked the .pwl files. The logon box still doesn't come up at startup. I have to log off and log back on to restore network connections.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'reverse the process'. I've tried nuking the .pwl files, changing passwords, and switching back and forth from Windows Logon to Client For Microsoft Networks. There's still no login screen at startup.

Have you tried typing Network & Log into your browsers Help file .

Number,

Look here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\curr ent version\network\real mode net\
Right-click on the AutoLogon entry and choose Delete.

Thanks reghackr. I got a logon box this time. I was sure I had checked that key, but I was thinking of the one under Winlogon.

Number,

This IS an odd one, I had a problem at work and even through the value was set right, it didn't work, so I finally just deleted the thing altogether and that did it. Days of confusion.
