My new home computer has MS -XP with MS Works. I cant get the word processor docs created on this machine to read on my office computer which has MS-Office 2000(windows NT environment). What is the trick? Ive tried Hotmail attachments and changing the extension to wpd and everything is gobbly-gook. please suggest.

Word 2000 shows in the Open list a file type at the bottom of the list of Works 4.0 [*.wps]. Try that. Or maybe in Works save the file as a Works 4.0 format.

*.wpd is a WordPerfect document and needs to be created in WP to be useful to Word.

I have a student who made some documents on his computer at home that came with XP and Works installed. We couldn't get the document to open on Word. Turns out the Works that came with XP was 6.0 and is incompatable with Works 4.0. You need a converter found at Microsoft. This site doesn't mention NT, but it does say for Win2K, and a lot of works for one works for the other, kind of like Win95 & 98.

Save the document as a .rtf (RichText) format. This format is viewable by almost any office application and it doesn't matter which application produced it.
