The latest release of Spyware Doctor replaces your mood message within Skype with and advert. The advert is as follows "Protected by Spyware Doctor for Skype http://www.pctools.com/". The advert will appear against your name in your friends contact list.

One of Spyware Doctors features is "Detects and removes malware infections including spyware, adware, browser hijackers, Trojans, keyloggers, dialers and tracking cookies", which is from their website.

Adware - "Adware or advertising-supported software is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertising material to a computer after the software is installed on it or while the application is being used"

Now in my opinion that is what Spyware Doctor is doing by displaying the advert and here I was thinking they were protecting me from that.

If this is truly happening, I agree that PC Tools has exercised poor judgement. This truly should be removed.

Hey

This is the reply I recieved for a similar issue I had a while back.

"Please note that none of the PC Tools software infects customer's computers with spyware, adware, browser hijackers or any other types of unwanted spyware/adware in order to generate sales.

Some hijack pages take over your search engine forcing you to use their search engine. We are aware that we are sometimes listed on these search engines with a high search result ranking. This is sometimes confused as meaning that we created the hijack page or search result popup. This is not the case and we are working very hard at ensuring Spyware Doctor eradicates these hijack pages and popups."

Some advice could be to take a screenshot of the problem you are having with Spyware Doctor and Skype and submit a ticket. They can then try to analyse what is going on.

I have raised a ticket. I got a reply from PC Tools requesting a screenshot, which I sent to them but I have not heard anything back from them since

Hey thanks for that - I guess it must have been a mistake otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to say they would rectify it. Putting it into perspective, as long as they listen to customer feedback and do something about it, then they will have loyal customers.

Yay to freedom of speech! :D

Hi All,

This issue has now been resolved.

Please perform a Smart Update.

I turned on the IM guard for Skype last week because I had been told that the Adware problem had been resolved.

I have just been informed by one of my Skype contacts that the advert is back. I checked and there was the same message.

So much for resolving the issue. Please resolve it properly this time
