lately, whenever i pressed ctrl alt delete i would see openme (not responding), so, not knowing what that was, my stupidity got the best of me and i deleted it. now when i boot i get an error saying windows cannot find file openme.exe. everything seems to be running fine, but the error message on boot up is annoying. any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. tx......

At what point do you get the message? If it is on a black screen with white lettering and mentions the system.ini file, you will probably have to run sysedit and delete the name from the run= or load= line.

Go to Start>run and type system.ini
Go to this line:
shell=Explorer.exe openme.exe

Remove openme.exe

The line should now read
shell=Explorer.exe

Reboot.

Emtpy your Temporary Internet Files and than Search your registry and startup files for any reference to Web Dialer and openme.

This is knwon as the Web Dialer Trojan. Have you had any [censored] pop ups?

Testing. I have not been able to post in this thread.

Finally I seem to be able to post here.

If running XP Pro, editing system.ini won't help..

Instead, run Regedit ...

Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell

Change value from: explorer.exe openme.exe
To just: explorer.exe

Know that they fixed you up... You need to read my site..... I have a trojan watcher running it monitors the startup stuff... and alerts you.....
