Excel cells freeze when trying to input (W2K)

Application: Office 2K, now Office XP
OS: W2K Pro SP2
Problem: The first time you try to input data into a cell the cells
turn gray, as if the left mouse button is stuck.
I have tried a different mouse (brand new, M$FT serial mouse) seemed
to have fixed it, then problem crept back.
Before this I had tried uninstalling/reinstalling Office and OS.

Found posts on Excel NG regarding same problem even with USB mouse,
but no response as to fix.

Technet=useless

Rebooting PC seems to fix problem for short time. I'm convinced it
is a Excel bug, nothing related to OS, hardware etc.

Very crazy problem.

It sounded like a mouse driver problem.. I suggest you use a ps/2 mouse and / or change the mouse driver.

Thanks, I have tried a serial>ps2 converter but it didn't work, may need to stick a usb card in and get a usb mouse.

Don't use the converter.. it does not work it all..
