Hi everyone,

I'm really new at solving virus problems...it's my first time at dealing with this dilemma. I ran an online scan(from housecall.antivirus.com) and discovered that I have badtrans.A. Unfortunately , the solution requires that I run Regedit.exe, but everytime I execute it, only the general "find files/folders" tool comes up. There is no "Find What" text box.

Is it possible that Regedit has been corrupted by the worm?

Totally clueless,
Janine

Hello,

Does Regedit launch when you run it? If it does you can go directly to the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce] and look for a value called "KERNEL32", you then need to delete it. You also need to check your WIN.INI file and look for an entry called "C:\WINDOWS\INETD.EXE" and delete it also.

If typing regedit in the Run dialog doesn't work, try regedt32(note: no "i" in "edit"). Instead of getting an Explorer style list and context menus you will get a screen with separate windows for each registry section and things operate from the menus at the top of the window.
