I am trying to remove the Internet Explorer Address bar via a registry hack that will apply to all users of a notebook computer running Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 2, Internet Explorer 5.0. I have tried the hacks listed in the registry guide but they do not have any effect on the Address Bar. Can anybody offer suggestions??

Try these:

IE Restrictions<font color=red> (http://registry.winguides.com/display.php/442/><font)

--------------

Restrict Options<font color=red> (http://www.winguides.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=secwin&Number=42804&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&part=1#Post43194><font)

You could also open Regedit, drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{01E0458 1-4EEE-11d0-BFE9-00AA005B4383}, and edit the clsid by inserting a minus sign in front of it, so it looks like so:

-{01E04581-4EEE-11D0-BFE9-00AA005B4383}

Hey Tony,
You wouldn't know how to remove the Mail and News options from the Tools menu would you??

I haven't tried this personally, and it may only remove the 'mail/news' button, but take a look at <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/968/>Remove Specific Internet Explorer Toolbar Buttons</a> :

Open Regedit, and navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]

Create a new DWORD value called "SpecifyDefaultButtons" and set it to "1" to enable the removal of buttons.

In addition create a new DWORD value called Btn_MailNews and set its value to "2"

I think you could also experiment by tweaking HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail/news, but I think I remember that there are side effects to that one.

It does grey out the menu options though.

Cheers, Tony

I went into:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients
and renamed it clientsssss
That greyed it out.
Even though a new
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients was created, ther was no information there.
I don't know what wuld happen if OE werer reinstalled. But after doing this I had no list in Internet Options &gt;programs.

You're welcome. I took it one step further and actually removed
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients

A new key was created. But it was empty.

So everything remained Grayed out.

Hi Mo.

And it didn't interfere with OE functionality, like forgetting OE 's the default email client?

In that case it is something to remember.

Thanks!
