Hey everybody!

I have an annoying problem with Office 97/W2K that I thought I had fixed.......... ref Q131161

1. Some user's wanted to view the file extensions in the Open/Save dialog box to change it if required. I actioned this in the Folder Options in W2K to not "Hide file extensions for known file types" and it worked.

2. Some user's with this option set were annoyed because the Open/Save dialog box would place the cursor on the first file in the folder, not the first folder (hence one would need to scroll back after clicking into each folder). So I reverted back to "Hide file extensions for known file types" and it worked.

Now, however, this does not work either way. It seems that once the Office preference has been set, it doesn't matter what you do to the Folder Options, Office will open independant to this setting.

I was hoping someone knew of the registry item that determines if extensions are shown or not in Office 97.

Many thanks!
