Occasionally I come across a site that tells me that IE 6.0 needs to have the "java virtual machine" installed to work properly. I have "re-installed" the VM at least twenty times, yet the system doesn't seem to realize that it's there. Help! What am I overlooking?

What about settings in IE explorer? Do you have them enabled to allow Java or not? That may be where the problem is. Go to Blue E icon right click and on properties click on advanced scroll down until you see Java and it will show whether enabled or not.

Yeah, Java is enabled, security settings set lower than I'd prefer in case *that* was the problem. Even d/l'd the java VM direct from MS and installed it that way. No go. I know it must be some stupid toggle in the registry that's keeping it from working, but damned if I can find it. I've had XP Pro installed since November; this problem just developed a month or so ago. A search of the MSKB was useless (surprise!). I'm an MCSE and *should* be able to get around this. Aaarrghh. Thanks for your input. Hopefully *someone* else has experienced this and knows how to fix it!

I use Win98SE with IE6. I had a Java problem a couple weeks ago. I reinstalled the VM about 4 times. But it refused to work. I eventually used IEradicator to wipe out IE and then reinstalled IE from the Hard Drive copy I had kept.
I reinstalled java and then it worked. That shows that installing the VM doesn't always work.
XP is so different. Unfortunately IEradicator is not for use with WinXP.

Have you tried a restore point?

Could you give us a site link so we could check on it ourselves?

Try the MSKB, articles Q229672 & Q168806... I may have found other references, but no matter where I look or what I try, I just end up chasing my own tail!
