For some time now, I have been unable to open any executable (*.exe) files I download from the internet. I am convinced that there is something wrong with the registry, but I don't know how to fix it. I've tried restoring the registry and all but it has no effect. The basic error I get is "Cannot load file" or "The file is corrupt" or something along those lines, however I have this problem with EVERY exe file I download. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to edit the registry in order to correct this problem.
Thank You,

Diagnostic questions: Have you downloaded a .zip file and decompressed it successfully? Have you downloaded/saved to disk a .pdf file and opened it when disconnected from the 'Net? What type connection do you have to the 'Net? Have you downloaded a small .exe [about 1MB], copied it to a floppy and tried to open it on another computer?
Answers to all the questions will rule out some variables such as quality of connection and give a sense of what is working or not working.

I'm running on Widows 98. I'm using AOL DSL. I have sucessfully downloaded a .pdf and opened it. and I've sucessfully downloaded .zip files and opened them. I migh have downloaded a small .exe file.

The file size is a potential issue, but it would be a problem with AOL. I know a lot of ISPs limit E-Mail attachments to 1024KB [1MB] and connect times [which could affect downloads] but I don't know about AOLs file download policy.

I think the only small .exe files might have downloaded would have been off of Morpheus (Stupid me). Now I just need to fix my registry i think, but I'm not sure what to do.

I think you might start by downloading Exefix.zip from this site: Trend Micro HouseCall (http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html>http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html</a>
It)
Good luck, Tony

Hello Adrenaline,
There was a recent post on another Forum which brought to light a problem with compresssed files downloaded using AOL being incomplete. Try this. Minimize the AOL software and use the IE button on the desktop to start your Real IE Browser. Try the downloads now. Are they corrupt?
