I recently installed "Bingoo" browser on my machine to try it out and after uninstalling it the following problems remain

IE (5.01) restarts with the search button on the toolbar depressed and the search panel open.

the text labels on the toolbar buttons are showing

the links bar moves from the desired position.

After I change these things back to the way I want them (search panel closed, no text labels, links bar adjacent to address bar) and if i reboot the computer IE returns to this undesired state.

Does anyone know what action I could take to resolve this?

Thank you for your attention

Hi,

You could start by repairing IE: Control Panel/Software Add-remove/MS IE > remove > repair IE.

Or, if you're not yet running the <a target="_blank" href=http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ie501sp2/default.asp>Internet Explorer 5.01 SP2</a>, upgrade.

Or, if you have that one already, upgrade to <a target="_blank" href=http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ie55sp2/default.asp?%20FinishURL=%2Fdownloads%2Frelease%2E asp%3Freleaseid&lt;br%20/&gt;%20%3D31770%26area%3Dtop%26ordinal%3D5%26redirect %3Dn&lt;br%20/&gt;o>IE 5.5 SP 2</a>

Good luck, Tony

Thank you Tony. I've already tried the repair step you suggest. I'm not sure I have got SP2 of IE 5.01. I'll check it out. I also haven't actually tried reinstalling IE so I'll give that a go too.

Thanks, Jeff Kogler

Hi Jeff,

Go to Help/Info in Internet Explorer, and you'll see what version you're running.

Good luck, Tony

I am at work at the moment and have to wait till I get home in about seven hours to do any more.

I only just joined the Winguides forum and already appreciate the prompt help offered. It is a very similar response time to the forum at www.emailaddresses.com which covers my email provider Fastmail.

Thanks, Jeff

I'm having the same problem after getting a new hard drive. I installed WinME from scratch, then upgraded to IE 6.0, and the EXACT same thing is now happening to me.

I found the solution to my problem. The uninstall routine for Bingooo left a registry file sp.reg in the startup sequence of the machine. This file, running every time I restarted the machine caused the changes and in addition changed the default search tool to Cybersearch.

By removing it out of the start sequence and changing IE back to my preferred layout the issue has been resolved. I hope other forum visitors may benefit from this explanation.

I'm not sure however that this is the cause of BillyW problem below but it may be beneficial for him/her to look in the start programs to see if a similar registry file is being loaded.

Regards, Jeff

Actually, that was it. I'm not sure where the sp.reg came from, but it was the cause of my problem.
