I am receiving an error message (#1500) when I try to install an application that uses Windows Installer that indicates that another installation is in process. I found the registry key at HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\ INSTALLER called InProgress and deleted it. However, I still get the error message. Is there someplace else in the registry where such a setting could be stored that would make the system think it is still installing something?

I suggest downloading the latest version of the Installer for Windows 2000 here:
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=32832&area=search&ordinal=2>Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000</a>

I did download it but, of course, it uses Windows Installer to install the update. So I get the same error message about another installation being in process. Any suggestions on how to get the updated Installer installed?

kredford,
At your own risk, go to DOS and rename the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msiexec.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msihnd.dll
Then try the installer again.
