Hello,

It also depends on your hard disk size and how much space you have spare. But personally I keep my cache small ~20Mb mainly because I'm on a high-speed connection so I don't mind if it's not in the cache. The optimum will also depend on your surfing habits, if you normally browse around many new and different sites then the cache may not provide that much benefit.

In general though if you have a small hard drive I'd keep it low, if you have plenty of space you can make it larger but I wouldn't go much bigger then 100Mb. Which is a pretty wishy washy answer to your original question!

Thanks Simon yes my HD is 1200mb with 500mb
(sounds better than saying 1.2gb) un-used.
I go to same sites & do the surfing thing as well so maybe 100mb is my setting with flushing the cache what once a week or less? Thanks Again Simon

You sure don't need it set that high! It's even recommended to have it set as low as between 5-15 mb. It takes quite a bit of surfing to get that high even.

Anymore, it's more strongly recommended to clear them out as often as possible, because that's also where virus files can be stored. I just saw a tip on a site to set it as low as 1 mb! I see no difference in speed at all having it way down.

Hally:

A browser cache size of 10 - 20 MB will do fine.

I see that you have a slow processor and not much RAM, so it would benefit you greatly to keep your startup load as small as possible, keep the junk files cleaned out and the Recycle Bin emptied, and defrag the hard drive at least once a month.

You're welcome, Hally. As long as you're just using it for basic stuff, like browsing and E-mailing, it'll do fine for you for awhile longer. Keeping old unused programs and junk files cleaned out and keeping the hard drive defragged will help a lot in keeping it running better.
