If screen resolution is 1024x768 the favorites frame is always pinned when the browser is opened. Anyone have a tweak that will cause the pinned/unpinned status to be remembered? I prefer the unpinned behavior, similar to autohide.
Thanks, JB

JB,

I'm a little confusded, I'm running in 1024x768. My favorites are either open or closed.

I know what pinned to the start menu is, but it doesn't apply here, does it?

If you have Office XP or .NET, go to Start>Run, and type mse7.exe. This application has pinned views.

Pinned was a bad choice of words. Let me try again.
I start IE. The top of the favorites frame looks something like this
Favorites X
+Add >Organize
I press F11 for Full Screen mode. Now the top of the favorites looks something like this:
Favorites S X
+Add >Organize
The S represents a stickpin icon that has the favorites frame pinned in the open position. If I click the stickpin icon the the favorites frame is unpinned and retracts to the left. This is the behavior I prefer, i.e. when the browser starts in full screen mode I don't want to see the favorites frame until such time as I move my cursor to the left edge. IE works this way in 800x600 mode, but not in 1024x768. My guess is that there is a registry setting that controls this behavior, but with my limited knowledge I am unable to discover a control.

I have this working right on my IE6 (1024 res).
Win 98 here.
Perhaps XP acts differently?

why don't you try the IE repair tool from Add/remove or TweakUI or accessories tool (all the same tool).

If you noticed that the taskbar is not working hiding right then this may be a DLL related problem.

reghakr helped me fix it with this:
regsvr32.exe shdocvw.dll (in the Start>Run command)

I have found that with my IE6 Win98 SE to get the toolbar to retract the first time, I need to press Ctrl+esc to bring up the start menu. After that, Favorites retracts and only reappears when I move the mouse to the left of the screen.

EDIT: My Media Bar would not retract just now.I used the Ctrl+esc Method and it wouldn't move. I registered Browseui.dll(The media bar is built by Browseui, not shdocvw.dll) and then used the Ctrl+esc method and it worked.

Register shdocvw.dll and if it still doesn't retract, use the Ctrl+esc method too.

No, your choice of words was exactly correct. I never tried this view before. Works exactly like the Microsoft Script Editor.

It look like you've found a re-produceable "bug".

reghakr,
Not only reproducable, but annoying. I went back to max view. Then fullscreen. I had to re register shdocvw.dll and browseui.dll to get the bars to retract again.

guys, why am I not affected then, I did exactly what he said and it works fine -- auto hiding and all that, and I didn't press any thing. It doess not stay pinned here.
Am I the only guy with w98 here, can someone try it on their 98 as well...

Anyone ever submit a bug report?

I suppose I could use the Feedback option and point directly to this question.

If you'd prefer to do it rcdjbp, feel free, you "discovered" it.

I don't think it'll get anyone fame and glory, though.

I use 98 SE qnd IE 6. I am not sure what you are saying. Deos your work with mo goosing? If so that's good. Or do you mean you cannot get it to reappear after it has retracted?

I played with it more today and found that when the borwser opens now if I click on the Main Window, whichever band is open will retract. You just have to tell IE which Frame you want to view.
